Introduction

The Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology was started in August 1987 and is accredited by the Technology Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (TAC/ABET.) In January 2005, the American Society for Engineering Educators (ASEE) ranked SUNYIT tenth in the nation based on the number of engineering technology bachelor's degrees awarded.

The Bachelor of Science degree program is currently offered on campus during the day and evening for both full-time and part-time students. Prior to the Fall 2005 semester, this was a an upper-division, transfer program only. Today, we offer a full four year program, while still meeting the needs of a strong transfer student body.

Mission Statement: The mission of the Electrical Engineering Technology Program at the State University of New York Institute of Technology is to provide quality undergraduate studies in electrical engineering technology. The department values and encourages academic and intellectual achievement of the highest quality and the technical competencies inherent to the field of electrical engineering technology. The program is committed to the integration of these elements in a coherent line of study of higher learning.

Program Educational Objectives

  • Students will be prepared to enter professional careers and graduate studies
  • Students will find employment in their field after graduation

Now more than ever before, almost all products, systems, and services have electrical or electronic aspects. Trained teams are needed to conceive, design, develop, and produce new solutions to modern technical problems.

While team members' roles may vary, the electrical engineering technologist generally uses a hands-on, application-oriented approach to solve practical design and application problems; although technologists have knowledge of theoretical issues, they tend to focus on current, state-of-the-art, and emerging technologies.

SUNYIT's Electrical Engineering Technology degree program provides students with skills needed to pursue careers in this growing field. Our program focuses on providing a thorough theoretical background with a strong hands-on component in most of our technical course offerings.

Daniel S. Benincasa, Ph.D.
Chair of the Electrical Engineering Technology Program
